NKW Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden
Jan & Feb 2016Website, custom mouse pads and mouse, found furniture.
Collaboratively produced between 2014 and 2016 in Canada, Germany, Brazil, YouTube, Portugal, Morocco, and the United States of America, this project included 2 exhibitions at the Nassauischer Kunstverein in Wiesbaden - first in 2015 in the form of a virtual reality experience [prod. in collaboration with Samuel Walker] and, in 2016, this installation of the website, produced in collaboration with Julian Garcia.
Despite a variety of media and forms of presentation, the core of The Bends is online video, produced in 11 multi-chronological chapters for online viewing. The movie has been formatted in such a way that each individual chapter can act as a doorway to the rest of the film, and can be viewed over time and in a variety of different contexts and platforms. At the end of each chapter, an active ‘endslate’ appears, allowing the viewing to ‘click-through’ to one of the other 10 chapters from the playlist.
In addition to hosting the full compilation of the movie’s chapters, randomized on the front page - the site contains many more hidden layers of additional content through its bottom menu, including video, text, audio, exhibition documentation, Twinery, 3D modelling, and more. The website is listed in the description of each the Youtube clips, and can be easily accessed by any viewer interested in exploring the other layers of the project. It is not intended that the website serve as a ‘face’ for the project. With the help of Hôtel Beau Rivage, individual chapters of the movie were circulated throughout a variety of online platforms, including AQNB, Circuit.org.nz, x-temporary and Petruse Entertainment.
